1. Make a standing bow upon entering and exiting the practice area of the Dojo.
2. Respect your training tools. Gi should be clean and mended. Tools should be
in good condition and in their place when not in use.
3. Never use someone else's training tools or Gi.
4. A few minutes before class begins, you should be warmed up and seated in
order of rank. These few minutes are to rid yourself of the day's problems and
prepare your mind to learn.
5. The class is opened and closed with a formal ceremony. It is important to be
on time and participate in this ceremony. If you are unavoidably late, you
should wait (formally seated) beside the mat until Sensei signals permission
for you to join the class. Perform a formal standing bow and then take your
place in class. It is most important that you do not disturb the class in doing
so.
6. The proper way to sit on the training floor is in seiza for green belts and
above and agura (Indian style) for all others. Never sit with the legs
outstretched; never lean against the walls, whether sitting or standing. You
must be alert at all times.
7. Do not leave the training floor during class except in case of emergency or
illness.
8. During class when Sensei demonstrates a technique you should listen
attentively. If for some reason it is absolutely necessary to ask a question,
raise your hand or go over to Sempai, then bow respectfully and wait for
his/her acknowledgement. (A standing bow is appropriate).
9. When the end of a technique is signaled, stop immediately, bow to your
partner and quickly line up with the other students.
10. Never stand around idly on the training floor. You should be practicing, or
if necessary, seated formally and quietly waiting your turn.
