Teaching Titles

Kohai - assistant instructor. This person is involved in the
process of becoming a teacher, but lacks the experience and tenure to receive
the title Sempai.
Sempai - older brother/sister. This person has shown through
their commitment to the Dojo and fellow students to be a leader willing to
assist others in reaching their goals in Karate.
Sensei - honorable teacher. This person is the one who has
walked the path before. They have also proven through their commitment to
excellence, the spirit of a teacher.
Shihan - master instructor. This person is Karate. He/She has
mastered the art of Karate-Do to the extent that it is evident in all he does
in and out of the Dojo. He/she is a teacher of teachers, one who points the
way; a formal title given to the head of a system or ryu.
